Courses Running Under Faculty of Medicine

Undergraduate Programs

Lincoln University College’s undergraduate programmes provide innovative health and life sciences programmes within a province-wide delivery paradigm. Students receive a comprehensive understanding of science and medical practise, as well as their social and ethical obligations. At Present, we are successfully operating the following courses under this faculty:

Doctor of Medicine

The Doctor of Medicine program will cover a total of five years and it comprises of 2 phases i.e., a 2-year basic medical science phase followed by a 3-year clinical phase. Each year will comprise 2 semesters, each of 20 weeks teaching and learning duration. Clinicians will participate in teaching activities in the second year to provide clinical orientation and interpretation. Inclusion of basic science lectures during the 3 clinical years will provide the necessary vertical integration between basic medical science and clinical teaching and learning process.

The first 2 years of basic medical science is being conducted in the Petaling Jaya campus while the clinical phase will be carried out in the hospitals and clinics situated in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia.

At the end of the MD programme, graduates will acquire the required knowledge, develop essential clinical competencies, and imbibe the right professional attitudes as well as values, which will help them to work as effective primary care physicians.

Duties of medical doctors include, examination of patients, diagnosis, prescribing of medicines, minor operations and treating injuries, diseases as well as other ailments. It further includes activities related to community development, thus acting as a role model.

Lincoln University College’s postgraduate programs in medicine are designed to give highly motivated students the opportunity to gain skills and experience in biological research and medicine practise. These programmes also provide today’s students with a high-quality medical education that is accessible, comprehensive, and personally satisfying, and that best prepares them to flourish as tomorrow’s physicians. We are currently running the following courses successfully under this faculty:

1. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Physiology

We offer Ph.D. program in varied research areas as far as medical physiology is concerned and the core areas include respiratory physiology, cardiovascular physiology, behavioral neuroscience and a few others as well. Our specialized and well-equipped laboratories make it convenient for students to pursue their independent research work and are offered guidance and support by our highly qualified and experienced academic staff. This program is thus intended for students, who wish to advance their studies in this relevant discipline of study.

For successful completion of PhD degree in LUC, each candidate should publish minimum of Four research articles in Scopus indexed journals, with Lincoln affiliation.

Duration: 24 Months

2. Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences

Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences program is designed for students to conduct research in the field of Medical Sciences and Biomedicine. The students will be able to do interdisciplinary research related to the fields of medicine. Our specialized and well-equipped laboratories make it convenient for students to pursue their independent research work and are offered guidance and support by our highly qualified and experienced academic staff. This program is thus intended for students, who wish to advance their studies in this relevant discipline of study.

For successful completion of PhD degree in Lincoln University College, each candidate should publish minimum of two (2) research articles in Scopus indexed journals and two (2) other indexed International Journals, with Lincoln University College affiliation.

Duration:

Full Time Duration: 36 Months
Part Time Duration: 48 Months

3. Master in Medical Ultrasound

The Master in medical ultrasound program is designed to develop professional competencies by integrating high level clinical skills, theoretical knowledge. The Masters course focuses on clinical sectional anatomy, ultrasound of abdomen and pelvic organs, echo cardiography, clinical sonography and completes with an advanced case studies practicum. This program equipped students with intensive training in both the theoretical basis of medical ultrasound along with scanning and diagnostic skills. After completing this course student can move into administration, private industry, research, teaching or a highly specialized ultrasound technology field.

Maximum Duration: 48 Months

4. Master of Science in Public Health

The Master of Public health program under the Faculty of Medicine is designed to give students’ academic and technical skills in broad areas. This program prepares professionals to work on a wide range of public health initiatives: policy advocacy, health education, institutional administration, treatment delivery and disease prevention. The program combines the precise training in international relations theory and practice with the analytical and quantitative tools of policy making. The program teaches students a wide range of skills that are valuable for careers in government, business, and international organizations. Global health concerns such as AIDS, avian bird flu, SARS, malnutrition, global warming, and the recent Ebola virus have significantly increased awareness and understanding of the critical importance of public health in today’s global society. The program would train students in a breadth of research and practice intended to improve population health across the life course. The program is designed as a trans formative program, which offers students the education, training, and first-hand experience essential for successful international careers.

Maximum Duration: 36 Months

5. Master of Medical Sciences
